Sekarang ni Kaknie perhatikan semakin banyak company membuat sesi Behavioral Interview sebelum mereka menguji technical knowledge candidate. Mungkin ada yang pertama kali mendengar istilah ini.

Apa itu ‘Behavioral Interview’?

Behavioral Interview adalah salah satu teknik temuduga yang digunakan untuk menilai cara kerja candidate dan bagaimana mereka menangani sesuatu situasi ketika berada dalam karier terdahulu.

Teknik ini semakin popular dalam kalangan para majikan kerana ia boleh digunakan bagi semua jenis pekerjaan dalam apa jua industri. Tak kira bidang engineering ke bidang administration ke, semua company boleh employ this technique.

Based on  my own experience, Kaknie pernah dipanggil interview oleh satu syarikat oil and gas. Kaknie pun gigih study company profile dan technical knowledge, tapi sikit pun tak ditanya. Hampir semua soalan adalah di luar jangkaan Kaknie. Sampai interviewer tu kata, “I thought you are well prepared”.

Ouch!

Sebagai rujukan bagi korang yang akan menghadiri interview, di sini Kaknie kumpulkan contoh soalan behavioral interview yang sering ditanya based on my own experience and reading.

1) Describe a time when you were under pressure. What was going on and how did you get through it?

2) Tell me about a challenging situation and how you manage to overcome.

3) Give an example of a time you faced a conflict while working on a team. How did you handle that?

4) What is your biggest regret? Why is that and what are the lessons learned?

5) What is the turning point that you decide to build career in _____? (e.g. engineering, accountancy, human resource, safety and health)

6) Describe the challenging job where you need to meet deadline. What was the job and how did you manage to complete it?

7) Describe any inappropriate situation you have ever faced. How did you handle that?

8) Give an example of a time when you disagree with someone at work. How did you manage to solve it?

9) Tell me about a mistake you made during a project or at a certain point in your career. What did it cost and how did you handled that?

10) Tell me about a success you’re particularly proud of, why did you consider it ‘a success’ and how did you achieve it?

11) If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be? 

12) Tell me about a time when you were asked to do something you had never done before. How did you react? What did you learn?

Bagaimana nak prepare untuk ‘Behavioral Interview’?

You need to write out your stories. Cari beberapa examples of real situation yang korang pernah hadapi dan kaitkan dengan behavioral skills korang which is closely match with the job requirements. 

Paling penting, setiap contoh yang korang nak bagi tu mesti follow STAR method :

Situation – gambarkan situasi yang korang hadapi.

Task – jelaskan peranan dan tanggungjawab korang dalam situasi tersebut.

Action – ceritakan tindakan/langkah yang korang ambil ketika menghadapi situasi tersebut. 

Result – jelaskan outcome yang terhasil daripada tindakan yang korang ambil.

STAR method ni adalah teknik untuk menjawab soalan-soalan behavioral interview. Kaknie sendiri apply teknik ni dan memang berkesan. Bukan saja memudahkan kita untuk prepare for the interview, tetapi juga memudahkan interviewer untuk memahami apa yang kita cuba sampaikan.
